ok my FX3 is not working, and from what I can tell it is not a inexpensive fix. Is the system worth the money to fix it? Im not sure if I can warrent 1-2k to fix this system. What do u guys think?
Depends whats broken. I think my ride computer is broken because the 'service selective ride' light does not come on during startup (bulbs are good). Who knows what could be wrong after that. I know for sure one of the shocks are leaking and at $200 per that will add up pretty quick.
Right now I'm leaning towards installing standard Bilstein Z51 shocks for $79 apiece. This way I can get the immediate benefit in ride I need without busting the bank. There's alot of other places I can put the grand.
I don't know if I'd ever use the system that often even if it worked. I certainly would not have bought as an option if I bought the car new.
I will leave all the components in the car however. If I ever run out of other things to fix and have a bunch of spare money, I might give it a shot :D
It shouldn't be that much to fix. When the FX3 breaks it's almost always the metal gear on top of a shock and/or an actuator. First, find out which one by grounding the proper pin in the ALDL connector and getting the codes. Shock removal is a piece of cake on these cars, and you don't even need to remove the shock to check the fronts. Remove the wire clip that holds the actuator to the top of the shock, and check the metal gear on the shock and the plastic gear inside the actuator. Bilstein will rebuild the shocks (which includes a new gear) for about $55 each, and if the actuator is also broken, they're about $155 each from the Last Detail.
FX3 is nice to have if you drive your Corvette the way it was designed to be driven.
