Pete . I'm rebldg my son's 91 R700-4 & have 2 questions . I have taken 2 tranny's apart & neither one uses the wave plate . The parts dealer says they are a junkyard item . So what do I do use , an extra steel to make up for it or go a find a wave plate ?
This is in the Over run & Forward clutch Pack . Also do you recommend removing the 3-4 load release spring assemblies as stated in the ATSG manual ?
Thanks for your opinions ... Warren
Warren,
Stop by any trans shop and ask them for a wave plate. They are needed to cushion the apply. Definately remove the release springs and be sure to drill hole 44 in the seperator plate as per the atsg specs.
Thanks Pete . The wave plates were there . I was looking for something more pronounced like the 350 has, my bad . Man , I never realized the amount of labor involved in disassembly, cleaning ,research , running for parts ,assembling & reinstalling a tranny.
I would'nt do it for $5,000.00 . Your a bargain !
Warren .
Warren, I usually charge $325-$350 labor to disassemble, clean inspect and blueprint the box. Every now and then, someone accuses me of being overpriced. On a hi-po build, I normally invest 20 hours or so.
