i currently have the 2149's on my 91. i was looking to puchase a new set of the afr 180 eliminator heads. hooker states that it will not work on the afr angle plug heads. what heads do i need to get to work with the headers i already have?

At one time AFR produced heads with their own proprietary spark plug angle. I believe that the newer AFR heads use the L98 angle. Those should fit the 2149s. Check with AFR on the angle of those heads to be sure.
CFI gives sage advice here, there's a thread about this very subject over in the parts section. The confusion stems from earlier versions of the AFR head in which they offered 3 plug options: straight, angle, and L98 angle drilling. Hooker (and AFR) said the headers wouldn't work on AFR's angle drilling. Many of us using Hookers have found they work just fine on the L98 drilling option though.
Fast forward to today with their new line of Eliminators and AFR's standardization of plug drilling to be an L98 angle in which the plug location has changed slightly and the exhaust ports raised slightly. All of a sudden it's a new ballgame. These new heads are just too new for header clearances to be common knowledge at this point......... many of the older clearance problems were because guys didn't do their homework thoroughly and just assumed they needed angle drilling and didn't specify the L98 angle. Like CFI said, it would be good to check with AFR on this issue
I just checked AFR's website. On both the 180 and 195 eliminator heads, they list straight or L-98 angle plug heads. They make no mention of a different angle. I "assume" that we should be fine. I am not 100% confident, but I will be when I can get a header for mock up.
are you putting them on your current 383 or a new motor. i was thinking the 180's over the 195's just because it's a stock shortblock. and they flow more than the old 190's i had. what do you think? they're the same price. i'm also going to do the intake, cam, and runners.
I origionally intended to run them on a 406 that I have on the engine stand. I am less than excited about them and want to talk to Tony Mamo after the holiday. I may keep them, or I may return them.
