After owning the 86 vette since last July got my first no start problem. A little background first. Last night I wanted to double check the timing since the car sounds like its missing just a little bit. Checked the timing and found it to be 6*. Turned the distributor a few degrees either way and reset the timing to 6*. Pulled the plugs and regapped to 35. Ran fine.
This morning after church I started the car, pulled it out of the garage and parked it in the driveway. Cleaned both cars as the day was nice. When it was time to go to relatives for Easter dinner I tried to start the vette and it would not start. Pulled the ECM stored code and got "42" Electronic Spark Timing.
Is this generally the ignition module that fails with this code? Its raining now so I will have to wait until tomorrow to try and get the car back into the garage and pull the distributor cap and check.
Well replaced the ignition module and cleared the code 42. Still no joy. Back to basics of fuel, air, fire. Checked fuel pressure from test connection on fuel rail, no pressure, no fuel. Back to troubleshooting.
Before I went to the trouble of pulling the fuel pump I figured I try and see if I could hear the pump running. Tried starting again and then checked the pressure port on the fuel rail, no pressure or fuel. I then started to pull the fuel tank door and pulled the cap so I could listen. Had my son turn on the ignition but could not hear over the antenna motor. Pull the trim pieces and disconnected the antenna. Before I could get my son back down to the garage I tried turning it over one more time. Fired up and ran fine. I did give the fuel pump relay a good whack before trying again.
Must have been the vette gremlins. Anyway shes running again.

If it IS a malfunctioning fuel pump relay the engine still should have started when the oil pressure rose to about 4 psi or more as you cranked the engine.
