Headlight replacement suggestions for "96 CE
FYI the 100w bulbs pull 18amps on low beam. Stock wiring would SMOKE... really it would just blow the fuse.
100/130w bulbs lasted a little over a year when I was roading my vette.

Voltage (E) = Current (I) * Resistance (R)
Power (watts) = Current Squared (I^2) * Resistance (R)
Power = I*E = E^2 / R
Using this ohms law calculator:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...en/ohmslaw.htm
100 Watts at 12.5 Volts = 8 amps of current draw.
How did you get the larger wire though the headlight assembly?
The problem with trying to upgrade the headlight wiring is because it has to go though the small opening at the hinge/swivel point of the headlight housing and there is not much room to put a bigger wire though that.
I've not had any issues (2+years) with the wiring or anything since I changed out the housings and added the high wattage MTEC bulbs that I have. No SMOKE here! All is fine.
I just ordered the Hella housings yesterday. According to Hella there is a big difference between the E code (European) headlight and U.S. DOT code headlights design.
Here is some good information on that:

I would like to upgrade the wires though, just in case!
Would love to see some pics when you get them up.

Corvettes 1992 on up used plastic lenses O.E.M. to reduce strain on the headlight motors, gears and Delrin bushings.
The bushings typically fail after 10 years or more of service.

Spend the money it takes to get top-of-the-line lighting.
I now have Hella e-codes and 100/80W H4 bulbs.
They are superb.
You'll not find anyone running this combo (and from all the CF threads/posts on this subject there are many of us who do) who doesn't have good things to say about it.

The 100w highbeams in our headlights do not seem to overtax the stock wiring. Who knows what 130W would do, except the amperage isn't increased by more than three amps.

I thought about replacing just the fogs with the true HID kit (bulbs, ballast, relays, etc).
I wonder how that would work out?
I wonder if anyone here has tried that yet?
