Nice thread. I used to work for Northrop Grumman setting up large antennas. We had to drill a 7/32 hole in a stainless rod. A regular drill would not finish 1 hole. The cobalt drills would do 3 or 4 before needing to be sharpened. We had a Drill Doctor to sharpen them with. Maybe a Master Machinist can sharpen drill bits by hand, but it is well beyond my skills. The Drill Doctor saved us more than it cost.
