How did the lifter change go ? Did it fix the noise ? I have a very similar situation.
Ok, lifter swap is finally done. Yes, it DID improve my valve noise.
To summarize, I had noisy valves on what sounded like #6 and #8. Using new LT4 rockers, springs, etc. Swapping rockers side to side made no difference. So I pulled the lifters and installed a new set. Now, both sides of the engine sound the same. I still have rocker noise, but now it sounds normal to me and not excessively noisy.
When I find time in the next couple of days I'll plug in my laptop and see if the knock sensors are still picking up the rockers. I hope not. I tried the LT4 knock module but it made the false knock MUCH worse. So unless I have a bad LT4 KM the LT1 KM is the one for me.
From what you described it sounds like normal noise but check your vin against this http://www.grandsportregistry.com/te...rarmrecall.htm
to make sure it doesnt fall under the recall. There was a recall on a few early LT4s for failed RR. Most of em have been corrected by now though.
I have an lt4 and have that ticking noise. I took it to a friend and a very good mechanic. He said lifters. He is going to replace for me at the end of the month. Also how much would replacing lifters roughly cost if done at a shop. We talked a little about performance roller rockers and he said it might pull out another 10-15 hps. If he does the new roller rockers will a retune need to be done? Any other ideas performance mods anyone might suggest while he is in there. Thanks in advance.
Anyone got some advice? Would new roller rockers even be worth it?
From what I understand, our rollers are pretty stout as it is. They are Crane Cams Aluminum rockers. I believe that they are sold by Crane as an aftermarket upgrade. Honestly. I am beginning to think my "noise" is more exhaust related. I think that after I did the muffler elims I am just hearing the good ole' LT4. Now, if your in there, theres a guy on this forum with a hot cam at a good price.

Thanks for the info. I've got an LT1 and used part number #12370839 which have 3/8" studs. So I don't think the recall applies in my case.
Oh, and I should mention, the false knock I'm talking about is when I'm sitting in the garage in neutral with the laptop connected. I was getting huge knock retard between 1400 and 1800 RPM with hot oil, and again higher up (probably a harmonic). So that gives you an idea of how loud my lifters/rockers were. I'll do the same test in a day or so now that I have new lifters installed.
2 years ago I upgraded to 1.6"RR, new springs, and trickflow pushrods w/ a hotcam. The RR's are very noisy now compared to stock LT1 before. I was told that it's normal (I hope it is )
I am doing lifters in my 1992 also, along with springs and 1.6 rockers.
Mine has always had a tick since purchased 2001. I will also post if this fix makes it any better.

Just a follow-up. I installed new lifters, springs, and scorpian 1.6 rockers (branded as Summit).
STILL noisy . The rockers were hitting the valve covers (I did grind off the drip tabs-maybe not enough) I think they were also rubbing the boss for the center-bolts)-so I changed them with taller covers (Proform brand).
It does run fine...I will just have to live with the noise.
Not to scare anyone but I had a 1996 LT1 with about 93,000 mile and started to get a little lifter noise. That soon turn into a cherping sound. sounded like a bird under the hood. Track down the noise to the number 7 cylinder vavle train. The roller on the lifter had developed pitts and nicks all the way around it the cam felt smooth but it was hard to tell if it was damaged. I changed it out and have put about 700 mile and with no issues. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it does not come back.

had the same chirping sound, turned out to be a lifter.just as you described but my roller was also out of round, was hoping the cam didnt have any damage.put in a new set of lifters 4k miles ago and eveything is still fine.cant figure why it happened like that.
