Default 01 ws6 vs '95 vette

My brother is buying a new 01 ws6 trans am. Says he'll eat me in the quarter mile. My vette is stock except for performance effects exhaust. Do I have to worry?

Regardless of performance, I certainly wouldn't!!

IT'S STILL NOT A VETTE AND NEVER WILL BE EVEN CLOSE!!!!!! not to mention the ugly TA styling!!! Even the engine on that thing looks horrid (I just looked at one the other day).

Shouldn't take much modification if you still must trash him. :D

He will definately eat you alive in the quartermile. The TA is on par with the c5, and can match, or even beat, a c5 in a straight line.
The Camaro SS has done 12.90 stock... I'm sure the TA is about the same with a great driver. :smash:
He's got a solid axle
30-60 more hp than you
better weight transfer
only weighs a little more
tire is better for hookin'
better gearing, I believe.

You forgot the T/A weighs about 300 lbs more than the Z28.
I raced a WS6 at the track and I beat him. I raced a stock 2000 Z28 and ran side by side up to 135mph before we ran out of room.

So there is a good chance he can beat you depending on either of your driving skills.

It doesn't take much to make a T/A run 12's, but remember you can do mods too.

Never heard a woman ask me if my car could run a 12.9 or a 13.3 so I say you'll get more chicks either way and that's what matters in the end :D

These WS6's are that fast? HMMM, Not to brag, but killed a few with ease over the past two years of vette ownership. Granted, these kills came at various times of my ownership,so there were mods involved on my side, but, saw nothing impressive about their ability to keep up. However, it is my opinion that they are the BADDEST looking things on the street!!!!

Oh yeah, those LS1 WS6's can fly! I'd say the way your car is set up right now, with him being completely stock, he'll get you by at least a 1/2 second and 4 or 5 mph. Believe me, they're impressive.

Thanks for the depressing news. Now I have to decide if I want to live with it or hop my car up or go for the new ZO6. Still don't like the side profile of the C-5! :(

Just went for a ride in a Lady friends Z06... amazing car !!! Pulls very hard throughout the range... I have a mid-11 second '85 vette, and I am still extremely impressed with the Z06 performance.

Guys don't count the LT1 'Vette out so fast. I have a buddy with a '96 A4 that has an air box, cat back and chip that runs 13.2s at 108 or so on DRs. You'd be surprised how well the LT1 'Vettes can run. I know I am. I'm considering getting one for my next car. You gotta love that Vette suspension and look. His 'Vette used to run 12.7/12.8 at 110-111 when it had 3.73 gears vice the stock 3.07s. I think he has a torque converter too. You can run way quick very easily in an LT1 'Vette.

Oh yah, I say run him and see. He may win, but then again the old SBC LT1 may surprise him. I bet he'll be surprised win or lose based on the pre race trash talk.

Let me say this first....THE VETTE IS A BETTER CAR! Having said that, stock for stock, driver skill being equal, he'll eat you.! Yes, he is heavier, but he also has 40-60 more HP, ram air and it is top heavy in Tq. As an example, I had my car dynoed (see sig) and a guy from work brought his 96 Vette with ported MAF, induction, air foil and exhaust and he pulled 263 HP at the wheels. That is a difference of 60hp+ with almost the same types of mods. FYI, the 1998+ F-bodies are dynoing the same HP/Tq as the Vettes

My last car was a 98 (LS1) T/A 6-speed. I would say the Corvette has better weight transfer. My Corvette is SOOOOO much easier to get a 2.0 launch and has much better traction from 1st to 2nd.

As far as the T/A weighing 300 lbs heavier than the Z28, that is not really true. My T/A with subframe connectors, true dual exhaust and 17 x 11" rims in the rear with 315s only weighed 3460 lbs without the driver. So a stock T/A would be closer to 3400 lbs. The 98+ T/As came loaded as standard equipment (you got t-tops whether you wanted them or not). However, the Z28 COULD be ordered striped (no power seats. power windows and other items that save weight). Anyway I would estimate MAYBE 150 lbs difference on a striped Z28 vs. a T/A.

Now as far as the 1/4 goes, the LS1 fbody would beat a LT1 vette. No question if both being 6-speeds and of course both being stock. The LS1 really pulls like an animal above 3k all the way to redline at 6250 rpm. If you had a 6-speed vette and an auto LS1 fbody with the standard 2.73 rear end it would be close with a really good vette driver. If the fbody had the optional 3.23 rear than bye bye vette. An 01 6-speed LS1 fbody will dyno at least 300 rwhp STOCK. That is 353 hp at the flywheel using 15% driveline loss.

I sure do the LS1 engine but I don't regret getting rid of the T/A. The vette is a MUCH better car. I think once I put in the LT4 hot cam I will be happier with the LT4 engine.

I drive a 2001 ws6 (6-speed) all the time (my son's friend). Car is bone stock. Not even a K&N and it turned 13.3 its first day at the strip. But don't play "cat and mouse" with your brother on a twisty road. The ws6 handles so poor its a widowmaker as far as I am concerned. On twisty sweepers (with rollers in it) the body builds up all this energy in the turns and then it feels like it wants to swap ends and do the telephone pole thing at the slightest provocation. As a result my old vette eats it for lunch on twisty roads. To me the ws6 has a long, heavy, ponderous feel to its handling. Great motor/trans and trans though!

Just do some mods. You will have fun, it's cheaper than replacing your car and you can be as fast as your pocket book will allow. Speed is only money!

Bottom line is you have a vette and he doesn't. Ask him to drive by a group of people and see who gets more looks. My money is with the vette! There is no replacing a vette! The president of my company has a viper and while standing around a couple of girls at work he decides to bring up his Viper and after he is done talking about it one of the girls says, "Well I still like Jesse's vette better!" I about fell over, because I could see the rage in his eyes. That was Monday and I still have a job, but that further backs my before statement of you have a vette! Have fun and if you race him do it ASAP after he gets it because he probably won't be able to drive it very well :D After you take him you can rest because he probably wont want to mix it up with you again. You can also tell him you'll drive so the girls will look! :p:
