We've finally come to the decision that I have a bad lifter in the motor. 91 Coupe w/ stock L98, 6 spd. Car only has 22k on it, that sucks, right? Anyway, if I'm going to yank the top half of the motor off to get to the lifters, it might not be a bad time to toss in a better cam and then maybe a set of headers as well. Any suggestions on what would work best. I'm thinking of Hooker 2149's for headers but no nothing of cams. Help!
The chevy zz4 cam has always been my favorite off the shelf cam for 85-91 tpi cars. There are bigger and better cams, but the zz4 works well every time. Not alot of money either.
If the lifter is bad, it may have trashed the lobe. check your cam carefully, you may want to remove the engine to clean all the lobe debris out of your engine
Pete,
How much of a advantage would I expect using a ZZ4 cam in my 91 L-98 motor? I was considering using a LT4Hotcam with a super ram, but haven't come to grips on this one yet.
When my motor was stock with a few bolt on's, the zz4 was worth 3-4 tenths of a second in the 1/4. It has been a long time, but I think it took me from 13.7 down to 13.3 back in 1993. That was flyin back then
I eventually went 12.80 with a mild port job on the heads and a gasket match on the intake manifold.
Again, nothing to write home about by todays standards, but quite fast back then.
