Six months ago my interior lights wouldn't go on when I opened the drivers door. The dealer repaired some broken wires in the door jamb boot and charged me a small fortune. Well, the problem is back (and the power lock is intermittent too) and I'd like to do it myself this time so I can do it right and save a few bucks. How do I access these wires? Is there a harness connector under the dash that I can disconnect and then pull the harness from inside the door?
You are going to have to take the door panel off to investigate the problem, it could be wiring, or it could be a connector or switch in the door. Using the GM manual you can take the door panels off within a few minutes. Hopefully you have the GM manual with the electric chapter that has the layouts for the circuits. This is helpful as the circuts are shared between both doors.

Good luck, Polo
Because the light and lock issues are intermittent, and I've had broken wires recently, I believe it is the wires again, but I will certainly check the switches also. I have the FSM but it doesn't show details of the physical harness clearly. I need to get access to the wires in the door boot where they flex but I'm not sure how to go about that. My thought was that if I took off the inner door panel and could disconnect the door harness from the main harness under the dash, then I could pull the wires into the door and inspect/repair them there pretty easily. Is there a connector between the main harness under the dash and the one in the door? If so, where? If not, how do others repair these wires?

The electrical chapter of the FSM is just that and you will learn about diagraming electircal circuits. Go by the color of the wires and follow the various refferences to connectors from the index at the start of each circiut description. You are on the right track to get access to the wires, however each circuit will have a different setup and there is not just one big connector for each door. the different circuits include, door interior lights, door open and close switch, locks, mirror heaters (if equiped), mirror motor, and window controls. ( I think I remembered most of them.
Once you get into the door, (and under the dash) and disconnect the appropiate circuit you will be able to pull the wires back under the dash to inspect them.
You may want to have a good mutli-tester to check the circuits, and because these are not brand new cars, you will want to check under the dash to cofirm if you got it correct.
I have to do that to determine why my cigarette lighter/aux plug does not work and I am replacing the interior so everything is mostly appart.
On having the dealer look at it, it will cost you alot less and you will get better results if you can go after this yourself.
