So I have to say that so far the easiest part of this whole exhaust install was just takin off the stock. I am in the process of fitting up the billy boat, and man, its a tight fit. The driver side front is like a hair from the oil pan, and I cannot for the life of me get the tension spring coils even close to the bottom to get the nut back on to hold in the front, they aren't long enough. UUuuuugh. 4 hours of madness. I think I am going to have to bang the snot out of it tommorrow...
On my 96 when I installed my 3" B&B system, I had an issue with the passenger side S pipe and like you said the system is a tight fit. I used a floor jack/jack stands to hold the system in place until I got it all in place. I used the jack w/ a wooden block to hold it up enough to get the tension spring coils on. It's a PITA but just keep working at it, it's worth it. Good Luck...
BTW, it helps to have the year in your post/profile so folks can provide you with install techniques/tips to get you over the hurdle.
I think I was having a bad night last night... everything came together tonight! Yes, I was using blocks of wood, rubber mallet, etc... the only part that bugs me is its literally just about touching the transmission pan in the front... but it is solid, and doesnt move...
but wow, I am glad I got the x-pipe. it sounds amazing!!!! I love the way my exhaust sounds! I can't wait to get up tomorrow and drive it to work!!! It was totally worth every penny!
It's a 95. I only heard resonance once or twice, depends on what range in rpm's. I would say nominal. It was cool though, I mean I have a red car, but people would look to their side to see what it was.
I drove it last night, and came home and tightened everything more, but this morning the pass side muffler decided to move again. I kinda thought this might happen, guess it's good I brought some sockets! I guess I am going to have to tighten the hell outta that last clamp...

i have a 95 as well and am looking this summer to put the B&B on. The question i have is to X or not to X. Can i hear a sample rev from yours please?
Thanks
Doooood, do the X. X all the way. I can probably figure out how to use my Treo to take a video and the post it somehow. Gimme some time and I will see what I can do.
It is a little louder on the inside, so warning if you have a bitchy girlfriend or wife, because it will be just another reason to nag. I like it though. I soundproofed my doors, but have a whole box of dynaliner left that I had intended for doing the floor behind the seats.

If you get the X-pipe and don't like it, maybe we can work a trade. My B&B is the new redesigned system that reduced the resonance, but it is a little too quiet for me. I also had the joints welded with S/S rod. Looks better and doesn't slip like the clamps do.

great, look forward to hearing it when you get the tech figured out.
thanks
i recently just forked out the cash for the B&B setup as well
i have a 85 so my cat back kit is easier to install and i had it done in about 1 hour.. My only thing that is still kinda puzzling me is the fact that each of the 4' tip outlets have a insert that restricts the exaust coming out the tips. The tips are the rolled SS 4' tips but when you look in the tip you see the Black shield with a 1.5x1 opening.
i am thinking this is to reduce the drone. i was expecting to have major drone with the B&B but i dont
I have the Billy Boat from Mid America but shipped it off to Billy Boat for examination. The tips were inset about 2" from the rear of the car and to me normal would be flush with the back of the car which is what they also stated would be normal.
My passenger side could not possibly stick out the middle of the opening unless I either relocated the mounting point for the muffler or hacked off part of the pipe coming out the back connecting to the Y portion to allow the muffler to swing further to the middle of the car thereby swinging the outside muffler tips to the outside of the vehicle to get them centered in the opening.
They said they would put it on their little template or whatever it is called to see if the parts were correct, and possibly modify an exhaust in some manner to fit my car.
So after dumping the big bucks it did not fit and I paid to have it shipped to Billy Boat. If they can make me a custom version where the tips get to the back of the car it would be worth it I guess.

Never mind. I saw your photos and see your tips do not make it to the rear of the car either an they also are not centered in the openings but both appear to be inset to the inside.
Maybe I am just a bit too picky...,
I had targa mufflers previously which were loud all the time. The B & B was medium loud in comparison during acceleration but at idle and at cruising speed were quiet in comparison to the targa mufflers.
I like the B & B exhaust sound and looks, I just think the tips should be to the back of the vehicle.
I just watched a B & B PRT exhaust installed on a C5, and the stock exhaust on a C5 has the tips inset way inside the vehicle. But on this vehicle B & B designed the tips rather long so they stick to the very back edge of the body making them more visible. And the various targa mufflers I have installed on various C4's I have had always came to the very back edge of the vehicle.
It is too bad there are hardly any choices for 84-85 Corvette exhaust.

I put the 3" system on my 93 convertible. I agree that it is tough to install. I had to purchase (4) new shorter "tension springs" like you are tlaking about. The muffler brackets weren't lining up the tailpipes correctly so I purchased a set of new ones, filled the hole with weld and drilled new holes for the correct location. After everything was installed and aligned, I used shims and clamps to hold the exhaust in place while I welded the stainless steel pipes.
