Here is an animation by Textron showing how their version of these
fasteners are installed in a production setting.
That is a really cool site...They have some great ideas for fasteners. But most look like they would require some expensive tools to use...Watching the nutsert ones makes me wish i had a nuematic installer...it looks SSSOOOOO simple on there.

Todd, man you need a life. Hows the Vette coming. Got my engine back!!!(Not installed yet)
Mal, I had a life... all it did was get me into trouble. I am trying to get all the body kit, bars and suspenssion done to get it to paint in the next couple of weeks. The inside of the hood is getting painted now so i can install the custom lighting and hood mirrors before the rest goes. The interior parts are supposedly getting done now. My leather guy didn't encourage me much last night... on the parts he already has or the roll-bar??? I still havent made up my mind what i want done on the seats either. But there is time for all that to come together... I HOPE!

When you pull up the nut sert make sure you use anti-seize on the threads of the bolt and only use a grade 8 bolt to pull it up.
The anti-seize is a great idea...where were you before? I think that is the problem with the ones that started spinning. My head is getting to filled and frustrated to think of such simple things my-self these days.:o

To ALL, Many Thanks!

Judging by the tone, the Nutserts are finished.

Can you say a few words about what finally worked for you on the
most difficult ones? The tenth one on the roll bar - how did it get resolved?

It never did get "resolved". I had to cut the head off the bolt, remove the roll bar, cut the neck off the sert and push it into the frame. ( I am a little dremil happy) Luckily there was a hole in the frame about 8" down that i got a magnatized retriver through to get what was left out of the frame. I then just inserted another nut-sert, WITH ANTI-SEIZE this time, tightened a nut against the sert collar to start it and am waiting to reinstall the roll-bar.
I seriously think that as they start to pull down(rivet on) the threads sometimes get an angle on them since this slow method isn't completely even on the pull down. That leads to binding on the threads which the anti-seize definately should help to overcome just enough to keep them from spinning loose. Since i did not completely tighten the bolts and completely run the rivet neck down to allow me some give when installing the part...The part going in acted as Corvette Kid's bar idea when doing the finnal torque down...As you can see i kinda merged several ideas together. I also used a a small (about 3/4") bearing race (Torrington TOR-TW815 on invoice) sandwiched between 2 washers under the nut. The bearings only lasted about 5-6 insert starts but only cost $1.67 each. I also noticed that the ones that spun were all on that 5th-6th install when some of the needle bearings were falling out. I don't know if that was truely the only, or a, factor or not though?

Luckily the other 6 bolts on the roll bar are going into 1/4" plate that we threaded and allow a little bit of give to line up. Now i will have a roll bar and keep the roof storage.
Thanks again to every-one. My brain some-times needs that jump-start from your ideas.
