I was finding quotes up to and over $2k for a rebuild and I was able to buy a brand new tranny for $1640, so it just made sense to swap it out. I'd like to put new hydraulics in at the same time, since I think problems with the hydraulics led to some of the problems with this tranny. In the thread I linked to above, TomTom72 says "GM says late april 07 for replacement slaves under the new Q/C standards." Does anyone know if the replacements slaves are out? How do you tell the difference in the two?
The new quality control standard is just to make sure the seal is installed the right way. There is a write up on www.zfdoc.com about the seal problem. It's an easy fix if the slave is out of the car.
I've seen the write-up at zfdoc about the issue, but nothing about how to fix it. Is there any info anywhere on how to disassemble and reassemble the slave? Or are you just supposed to sit down in the garage and figure it out? Do you replace the seal or just turn it around?
I bought my son's slave from Bill at zfdoc and had him take the new one all apart and fine tune it and re-assemble it before shipping to me. I can't remember the price but I'm sure it was very fair. Just call him up and order one. He shipped mine pretty quick.
