Default Temp guage question

I have an 88 vette with 17000 miles on it that i bought last summer, it was to the point that because of age it needed some work, I just finished installing new intake gaskets, heater hoses ,radiator hoses, waterpump, i've heard something about burping the radiator to get the air out.I filled the radiator up started the car with the cap off ,added some coolant tightened cap, went around the block ,on the temp guage it says" Low". I can't get any numbers it just says low , a couple of times on the driver info center it would pop up coolant low then go off again ,but on the guage all it says low . It was only in the 50's the day i drove it . The only change i made was a high flow stat and a lower temp (200 degree fan switch) Any ideas?

There is a coolant temp sending sensor for the dash guage on the passenger side of the engine. Just under the oil dipstick. It has a spade terminal connector and the wire is green. Make sure it is connected to start with. When this sender is not working or the connection or wiring is bad.....the dash guage will read low.

Whats the easiest way to replace the wiring? Mine has at least one spot that is exposed.

If the insulation is just rubbed off in a spot, you can just use some liquid electrical tape.

A spot of hi-temp RTV should do the trick too.

Ok I think I will try some RTV since I have that. Its right down by the tube it goes into that has the issue. Not sure if thats part of my problem or not.

Any tricks to removing the sending unit, its pretty tight...maybe just unscrew the oil dipstick tube and move it?
