Default 1985 L98 cam selection

Im rebuilding my 85 L98, and was wanting a little more in the power dept. Ive got headers, and true duals, but other than that, its all stock. what would be a good cam choice that would give me a boost in power, and facilitate a procharger down the road?
Its a 4spd car w/ a 3.07 D44 rear.

Well there are cams that would be good with TPI and cams that could work best with a SC.

Tell us all the plans for the engine, what heads and where do you see the intake choices going?

If you're going to stay stock for the most part, Crane's #114132 is a great choice and does not require a re-prog. Although I have the same cam in my moderately modified 86 L98 w/ 11:1 comp, Trick Flow heads, ported base, 30# inj, TPIS headers, etc., and it works great. I dynoed at 350 hp/ 390 tq.ft.lbs.

But it all depends on what you're looking for in performance. Mine pulls hard simalar to my Z06, but still has no chance against the Z. I could get more HP with some changes, but I'm happy with it as is.

Basically, its hard to answer your question until you know what your expectations are, how much modification your willing to do and how much $$$ you want to spend.

the heads are stock, except for a 3 way VJ- other than that, and a beefed up bottom end, its stock as can be.....
Obviously, Im not building an LS7 here. I just want a little more power than stock, and want a cam that will jive with a procharger when I get ready to add that.

If its an 85, the heads need to go. Anything would be better than what these things have. As long as you try to keep a 76cc chamber, your CR will be ok with the SC.

A SC will benefit from a cam with longer duration on the exhaust side, like the TPI system. It'll also smooth out idles with choppier cams. I'd look for something in the mid 220's (.050") on the exhaust side and a little smaller on the intake side with about a half inch of lift.

It may not be perfectly suited for TPI with that much duration, but it should be fine until you put the SC on. Will need a chip done at each stage though.

If you were going to change later to SR or MR, I'd probably go alot bigger.
