Default Summer Time..

Ok, well its basically summer time here in Texas, and it is hot down here, and its not even June or July yet. And my AC has not been working right, and I NEED to fix it. My AC will get cold and I can control the levels but It only comes out the defroster and by the legs, it will not come out threw the main vents?? What could be the cause and what should I look for? thanks

Does it have the optional climate control, or the base HVAC system?

Be well,

Does your climate control panel look like this? If so, you have the Electronic Climate Control option.

Are you also noticing that there's no change in airflow when you select different vent settings, i.e. Dash vs. Floor vs. Windshield?

If the problem is affecting the airflow mode AND the recirc setting, then the issue is likely your vacuum line coming from the engine compartment into the dash that controls the vacuum actuators that move the doors for airflow/recirc.

The vacuum line passes through the firewall below the battery and it's not uncommon for the line to spring a leak resulting in no vacuum, hence no airflow changes.

If the problem is only the recirc setting, then that vacuum actuator may have gone bad and is no longer able to move the recirc door, or the door is stuck.

Hope this helps.

You might have the same problem I had.

My buttons didn't work when I bought my car. I thought it was some big electrical problem and I needed to drop some cash to fix it. Turns out I just needed to follow Perfusion's directions and take it all apart and clean some contacts. Check it out. Dust gets in there and makes the button not work. Takes about an hour and will make you 10 times happier.

From a previous post search, the Vent position is controlled by the Programmer which switches vacuum to any one of several solenoids that suck the HVAC doors open or closed.

If it loses the vacuum source, default is Defrost. It doesn't sound like that's happened with your Vette, although you can check it out by referring to the vacuum diagram in the engine compartment.

Trace the line to the check valve that's under the left fuel rail cover. Make sure that valve hasn't fallen apart. Otherwise the problem is with the Dash Controls or the Programmer.

The best way to diagnose it is with a bi-directional scanner using the CCM link up. That device will emulate the controls and if it works, you need a rebuilt control panel or you can try taking it apart and cleaning the contacts. If that's not it, it's the Programmer.

mine does look like that pic above, and I can change my buttons like from defrost to main vents, so defrost turns off and switches to main, but nothing comes out, even the little green light above the button turns on, and I checked that piece by the left fuel rail and my piece looks new, maybe my buttons are not making contact?

Either that or your vacuum line has been broken.

The vacuum line runs from the engine compartment into the dash and controls the vacuum actuators that move the doors for airflow/recirc.

The line passes through the firewall below the battery and it's not uncommon for it to spring a leak resulting in no vacuum, hence no airflow changes.
