Default Brake Bias spring....installing

Anything in particular I need to know. I've read the shop manual, and the limited amt of instructions included with it.

Anybody else care to offer tips.

I did this mod and had a bruised thumb from holding the stiff spring in while trying to get the snap ring clip seated. I you have a very small pair of snap ring pliers it would be benficial. I could have used another hand but got it in by myself but it sure was tough holding that stiff spring in with my thumb while trying to get the snap ring in place. Also if the snap ring isn't seated properly the thing will fly out and then you'll have a time finding the little thing. I'm still looking for a very small snap ring pliers. :cuss :cuss

Pretty much the only area I ran into difficulty was the same one as cajun86.

After countless attempts to push the new spring (which is much harder) down far enough into the housing to lock the circlip in place, I put the parts in my beater, drove to a brake shop and paid them $10 to put it in for me :). I actually 'ruined' the old circlip by having so many tries compressing it to get it into place so they put a new one in for me.

If you have the right pliers you might be able to install the circlip yourself.

Aside from this the job is fairly easy .

I used a vise. I put the cylinder, spring and ring clip in position in the jaws of the vise with the edge of the spring hanging over. I positioned the spring clip where I could get the snap ring pliers just right to push it in that last extra little bit while closing the vise to completely compress the spring.

There is a small hole in the side of cylinder (at least there was on mine). I pushed the spring down with the tip of a screw driver and inserted the end of a jewelers screwdriver into the hole to hold the spring down in place. You can catch just a little of the groove on the other side with the end of the jewelers screw driver. It is touchy though, since the end of the spring is cocked to one side a little and the groove side bite is not that secure . But it held well enough to get the clip back in and I did not have any parts get launched across the room.
