Memcal/Hypertech problems
I purchased an 88 auto a month ago and have problems...I think it's a bad chip. It's got a hypertech in there. I've tried to burn a new chip, but the ecm doesn't recognize any program (bin) loaded onto the new chip except the one saved from the hypertech chip...stays in limp mode. Is there a chance that the hypertech chip came with a memcal only for the hypertech chip? Thanks!

Could be two thing: look and see if the hyper is on a piggy-back board or if the memcal itslelf ... if it the memcal itself, order a new stock one for the 88...
If you don't program the correct starting/ending locations for the bin it won't work, and usually memcal's cannot be reprogrammed...
Best bet, order a new 88 memcal...

Yeah, it was soldered to the mecal itself. The memcal looks a little different than the others I've seen...it's got a black plastic piece glued over the circuitry. The only component you can see is the eprom.
