Most people will never even max out the stock fan enough to bring the auxiliary front fan on. If the stock fan isn't keeping up the your cooling system is probably not up to snuff.

What are you doing with the car?

The car has a 355...Im just about to start the MiniRamII conversion..I plan on puttin a t3/t4 turbo on it in the somewhat near future as long as everything goes well. I'm also going to be wiring in a megasquirt Spectrum. Now i know that i'll be able to set the fan temp with the M/S but I have a problem keeping it cool at idle. It has a 160* with the 165 fan switch right now.

So once you warm up the fan runs all the time and it still gets hot? How cool is "cool at idle"?

don't worry. any cooler and the metals will stop expanding at the accepted rates.

figure that the fans don't normally come on until 228 or so... you are a-ok.

A turbo? you will want a bigger rad anyway. and an intercooler.

Oh, and a 355 is simply a 350 bored .030 over. It's essentially a stock rebuild. I hope that the engine internals were upgraded to deal with turbo boost.

What are your current fan settings? Stock?

As bogus said, you can't blame the fan for the car getting up to 228, because the fan doesn't even come on until then.

If you don't like those temps for some reason you can program the fan settings or use an override switch to force the fan on earlier.

If the fan is running and can't pull the temp down, then you have a problem.

the fan is set to come on at 165...and yes the compression has been lowered to 8.5:1 to compensate for boost. The bottom end is good to go..now i'm just working on the top end
