Default Late C4 Transmission cooler

Anticipating the new high stall torque converter recently ordered from Pete K. I figured it would be a good idea to install a transmission cooler to be ready for the new toy. I found one in the Jegs catalog that seemed to be about the right dimensions for the location I thought looked the best, just forward of the power steering cooler on my 93 LT1. The cooler I picked was a heat sink style, Jegs own brand, part number 555-60350 ($65)
Incredibly it is almost a “bolt in” using the same mounting bolts as the existing PS cooler. I did elongate the two upper holes in the trans cooler bracket using a rotary file in a die grinder and trimmed off one corner to clear the right lower bolt on the PS cooler , I drilled one more hole in the left side trans cooler bracket so it is attached with two of the existing PS cooler bolts and one additional bolt supplied with the Jegs cooler.
The two 3/8” fittings end up perfectly located near the return line from the radiator. (the return line is the one at the bottom of the radiator, and connects to the top fitting on the transmission). I cut the return line and plumbed the cooler in with 11/32” high temperature transmission hose attached with fuel injection style hose clamps, regular screw clamps will work as well. A 4 foot length of such hose is available from Jegs part number 259-13003 ($9) the installation probably uses half of that.
If you are looking to add a transmission cooler to a late model C4, it doesn’t get much easier than this.

Looks good I may need to order one. Have you checked your trans temp?

Nicely done. I am not sure how much that type of cooler will help though. And it doesn't look easy to put a fan on.

Sorry no gauge in it yet, should I put that in before or after I smoke the trans?

Thanks, I know what you mean about the style of cooler, I have not used this type previously. For what it is worth, it is mounted almost directly behind the right side fan, (see image below) hopefully that will help.
It does of course reduce airflow to the PS cooler but I'm not into autocross and would rather replace a steering pump than the transmission!

good move on the cooler with that 9.5 ,you might want to run the cooler straight to the trans.the rad cooler is quite small and will provide extra heat you really dont want.

I'm going to have to get one of those, at least I can pull the trans now
without a tech call to you I wish Jim was close by it would be fun to line them up and race and see what kind of difference the 9.5 really makes !!!

With my luck JD if I won the first round, the second one would be yours after turning my D36 to dust

Hey Jim, why don't you put a gauge on that thing so you can answer the temp questions? You don't see to many coolers like that. Might be good to know if there is a difference or not in one like yours and say one like I have.

You get your seats yet?

The trans is still alive and I don't care for the look of an add on gauge. The seats arrived, but not what I ordered, a shipping mix up according to AK. The correct ones were supposedly shipped Thursday, so hopefully they will arrive this week along with the return shipping label for the stock ones sitting here now. If mine are as nice as this set I'll be happy.
