Is it possible to run out of air/fuel at higher rpms with nothing more than a cylinder head upgrade? I ask because I recently put aluminum heads on my '85. I havent floored it until today, and the rpms jumped over 5000 and the engine made a loud bang. No damage though.
Stock compression was 9:1 with 74cc heads. My new ones are 70cc, so i'm guessing 9.5:1 compression? I'm using Autolite plugs of the correct length, non-platinum tip. I'm still running just fine on 87 gas and its running great otherwise.
