Default swapping LT1 engines

I have found a low mileage 1996 LT1 (16M ) to replace my high mileage 1995 ( 106M ) it doesn't have the computer with it, the wires were cut at the firewall after a rear end. How hard would this be to change out and would all the wiring connect and the computer work
Any help would be appreciated

Anything wrong with your original engine? 106k miles is really not high for an LT1. But, if you get a good deal on the 96, may want to keep it as a spare.

The 96 should work with your current PCM. I think the crank position sensor is the only difference. Make sure the 96 has it's original flywheel/flexplate.

1996 corvettes are OBDII. My 95 is OBDI. Not sure about the PCM working. Isn't the O2 sensor setup different also? I have heard of conversions being done. I would look to http://www.pcmforless.com or http://www.madtuner.com/ for further information.

There shouldn't be a problem using the 95 PCM and 95 o2 sensors. The PCM gets the signal from the o2 sensors, not the engine.

I just swapped a 94 into my 93, you're should good to go because you'll be keeping the same computer (I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work). The only thing I kept from the 94 was the fuel rail since GM redesigned how the rail attached to the engine between 93/94. Hopefully you'll have similar good luck.

My tranny was already out so I don't know if you have to pull it, reassembly wasn't too bad but it added a few more steps.

Do you have access to a lift? I doubt it's necessary, but it will make some things easier.

Did you get the accessories with the new engine? A extra opti is a great thing

If you did be vigilant if you want to keep any of the new ones, the AC compressor from the 94 did not accept the hoses from the 93.

I've got a mag that has an article on which ECM/PCMs work with which years.

Get me few to track it down and I can post what gives.

Okay, it's the GM HIGH-TECH PERFORMANCE April 2007 issue.

The 96 PCM has a faster 6800 series processor and a doubling of one memory chip size.

Not sure if that article will answer all your questions, but that's the best I can do.

In November of last year. I purchase a 1994 LT1 auto with a blown Motor. I purchase a 1996 LT1 Auto from a wreck Covette trans wireing trans every thing. I replaced the engine only,

There was only a few problems I ran into.
1. The wireing harness are not the same for a 1996 as 1994.
(I use the 1994)
2. Coil wireing conector are diffent. ( I used my 1994 coil.)
3. Coil wire from optim spark if diffent (I used 1994 wire)
3. Steam tube is diffent on 1994 than 1996. (Routed hose from front of engine to steam Line at the overflow return lines.
4. Used 1996 top Radiator hose.
5. 1994 does not have cam sensor of timeing cover.
(not sure if 1995 has it)
6. I was told the knox sensor are different on 1994 verses 1996.
(so I use my 1994 ones)
7. 1996 manifolds a diffent they have donut my 1994 did not.
(Used 1994 ones.)
8. There are some electrical/vacum items on the passenger side of the intake that are differnt. (I used the 1994 one's)
9. 1994 trans and torque convertor botled up to 1996 engine fine.

Basicly there were no issues that I not able to overcome using parts from the original 1994 engine and the 1996 donor engine.

Just lots of left over parts.
