Default PKE Passive Key Entry Question

I know this has been talked about quite a bit...but figure I want to ask a question that I've experienced.

I purchased a used FOB & went to program the PKE.

I followed the instructions...

1) FOB is about 10-20 feet from car

2) turn ignition ket to "on"

3) depressed Trip/ODO key twice

4) depressed Fuel/Info key unitl the PKE light comes on in the DIC

& at this point....when I turn the key to the "off" position & leave the key in the ignition....the light goes out. It does not blink or flash.

Instructions said it should so that the FOB can now be brought within range.

Well, I brought it in range anyways....& nothing seemed to happen. So, I shut the door, walked away with the FOB & the doors automatically locked & the horn 'chirped'.

I went to see if I walked back if the doors would open & it didn't. It also seems the FOB buttons didn't unlike the doors when depressed.

I went through program process 2 more times, & the same exact thing happened.

I know alot of guys on here like these, & a bunch that say "throw it away".

I guess that I'm bored & want to give it a go. Any suggestions?

Be sure there isn't an old fob lost inside the car, if you are sure there isn't, make sure the replacement is out of range when you try to enter programming mode. If the light still does not flash when you turn the ignition off there may be a problem with the receiver, good luck.

From what little research I've done....I've found where some people say it may or not flash, but still programs.

I've looked pretty good throughout the car & didn't find a loose remote inside the car.

I haven't changed the battery in the FOB. The guy I bought it from said the FOB worked a year ago when he had the corvette. I'm thinking the battery could be old/weak.

Whats weird is the passive system worked (locked the doors/chriped horn) when I walked away, but would not reopen the car (either by depressing the button or passive). It also would not relock the car when I walked away after unlocking it. If I re-programed it...it would do the exact same thing & lock the doors when I walk away, but would not re-open it.

I appreciate the advice & think the receiver could be bad....just taking it a step at a time.

I like and use my system but would be the first to admit the function can be inconsistent at times. I have two transmitters and one always works better than the other. Certainly can't hurt to try a battery, they are not expensive, CR2450 available at Radio Shack and elsewhere.
I'm sure you have seen this advice previously but the FSM can be a huge Help if you don't have one. There are detailed diagnostic charts for several PKE issues that will help and possibly save the expense of buying an unnecessary part. Again good luck with the fix.

I hear you...the FSM & pulling codes will be my next step.

I like hearing & reading feedback on these types of things. I find it funny that it locks the doors once...but not a second time unless I start over & re-program it. It's stuff like this that makes it interesting & humorous at the same time. It also seems like it wasn't Chevrolet's finest hour in design.
