My '87 runs great (200k miles, 4+3), but shows "Service engine soon", intermittently. Plugging in the OBD1 code reader doesn't flash the readout at all. Also connecting the pins directly doesn't have any effect. Could this be a grounding problem???
Thanks Guys.
use a flashlight, and a paper clip to make sure you get the correct pins in the ALDL connector. Thy are the top 2 r/h pins.
forget the code reader if you know how to count.
I tried the code reader route, and could not get satisfactory results.
First get the SES to flash with just ALDL pins A&B jumpered; then try a code reader or scan tool.
If you suspect corroded ALDL pins you could try jumpering together the two wires going to them:
Pin....Color......Function
A......Blk/Wht..Gnd
B......Wht/Blk..ALDL Input
