If you are not considering cost or easy access LPE headers are solid well designed units. However, they had only performance and durability in mind when they designed them. It's a whole lot easier to work on a car with Hookers(ie change spark plugs, and you save quite a bit aswell. TPIS quality and performance design is lower, but cost is high, quality low, performance mid stream and convenience between LPE and Hooker.
That jeal is a good looking header. Whats with the 4 bolt holes per exhaust port?
If you run hookers don't you have to scrap all of the egr/ air stuff or is that just a hedmann?
Why would anyone settle for 2nd best when you are talking about a Corvette?
TPIS is a better bang for the buck, but that isn't the question. The question is... which is the BEST?
Go with the best known brand, and the longest existing brand, and without a doubt the BEST brand- Hooker.
Can't beat 2 3/4 Super Competition BadAzz headers.
With the LT1 engine, typical peak RPM for many is at 6500... you need as long of a header design as you can fit in the C4... Study up on your header design theory. It will help you make the decision.
I compared alot of header designs. Best thing to do is to get as many picks as possible and scale them so that the bolt patterns are equal length. Then overlay the pics so that you can measure header tube length and collector design. You will find many do not have optimal tube lengths & collector design as they profess..... A difference of a couple inches means alot when it comes to scavenging.
My choice was....
Exotic Muscle Long Tubes - good fit, design, materials and price. It didnt have all the features I wanted but the 80/20 rule was applied. The major objectives met. One thing I didnt like was the raised "O'ring" designed flange. But no leaks to date. Second thing that the turnaround wasnt the best.
Process Coatings (Michigan) - Acid bath, Internal - exhaust duty "Green Coat", External - "Cermakrome". Highly recommend these good people. They have the best process and coatings out there. Hence their name.
how much are all these headers? which is cheapest/most expensive? How much does a shop charge you to put them in, what kind of performance gain do you get? do you feel it? hear it? love it? :hat
Hooker super comps coated by Jet Hot-----$430 from Jet Hot direct. Shops go anywhere from $500 and up. Took me 14 hours with a helper and a lift. ( also did serp belt, water pump, plugs, wires, coil, converters, opti, O2 sensors, and fuel filter just to name afew ) :seeya
The exotic muscle headers are a work of art as I have said in previous posts they have both O2 sensor bungs and EGR hookup. (its not drilled so you can decide if you want egr or not great for LT-4 intakes) :chevy
tpis from the headers through the cat are great, installation a joy. there cat backs suckkkkk. nothing lines up, you will need a torch for their cat back system.(3 1/2" to 3" y pipe and 3" flowmasters) but they sound great!!!
Yep, 14 hours was about it. Took about 1 hour just to cut and reconnect the passenger side EGR tube to fit into the header. I think we probably spent an hour just re routing the plug wires. :) I guess it was probably closer to 10 hours but was still a pain in the a**! :yesnod:
