I started on my summer project today. Putting a carbed 350 into my 88. One of my main questions is should I pull the tranny with the old engine so I can bolt the new one up out of the car, or should i leave it in and bolt them together with the tranny still in the car. I think it would be easier to pull the tranny out, but i know it can be done both ways. What is yalls opinion?
on my 93 (yes there are differances I know) but the engine could not be removed without removing the tranny. The input spline will not clear the bell housing. The best way I have found is to remove the drive shaft and then tranny seperatly out the bottom then pull the engine out the top. And for install do the reverse. I don't have a lift and I had "some" problems removing and working below (I used a pair of ramps)
As long as you support your tranny, there is no need to pull it. The engine will come out and back in just fine. I got my engine to line up with the tranny on the 1st try. I also pulled mine with the hood off...not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Also...take your distributor cap off and watch that wiper motor when you pull...the wiper motor cap is plastic and will crack if the engine swings.

I pulled my engine with the hood on . I think it would be easier to pull the engine w/o the hood because you have to work around it while pulling out the engine. But that is just my opinion. good luck
ive already taken the hood off, that cleared up a lot of room. I should be yanking the engine out tommorow, but im still undecided if i should pull the trans too? I need corvette forum's wise guidence!
Also, as to why go back in technology, well...... there was an engine fire so basically all underhood wires are molten goo, would you try to throw a FI engine back in there?
