When converting to a carb can you use the kickdown cable from the tpi setup or is it nessicary to get one for say an f-body with an lg4 or l69 with a 700? Thanks!
The automatics in C4s don't have any "kick down" linkage. The cable to the TB is a TV cable. It is VERY important for that cable to be set up with the proper geometry for the correct amount of pull for the various conditions. The best way to do that is to buy a TV cable linkage adapter, designed specifically for the carb you are using. If you mess this up, you get to buy a new trans.
yeah guess I screwed the terms up.. what I'm wondering is if I should get a shorter tv cable from say a carbed camaro or firebird with a 700r4 or will the longer tpi version work? Just wondering if I'd run into problems with a cable binding or anything..
You never mentioned length being an issue. One way or another, make sure you have the geometry correct. I don't know if there is a problem with snaking the cable around with a carb, not ever having tried it. The Crossfire cable ought to be about the right length, too.
I reused the TV cable from my C4 when I moved the TH350 into a '66 with a carb. Make sure the TV is all the way extended at WOT and there's slack at idle.
BTW, Holley makes a nice combo bracket that attaches on the rear carb mounting bolt, it holds the throttle and TV cable in the correct position. I just used one on my C4 for the throttle cable and will put the TV on it after the trans swap.
