I am going to be removing the wheels to paint the calipers on my car. I thought while I was at it I would check the brake pads for wear.
I looked thru the Helms and Haynes manuals for my 86 and couldn't find how to do this. I don't have the 96 Helms manual yet. Looked thru tech tips. Searched the archives.
Either this is so basic everyone knows how to do it or I am overlooking something big time. Could someone tell me how to check for brake pad wear on my 96 with the J55 brakes.
You mean other than looking at them? Do you want to know the thickness values of the pads? I don't think I've ever come across a thickness measurment for pads, but if they look thin to you, they probably need to be replaced. Am I missing something in your question? Good luck.
