I've read the reviews on this forum about the hypertech module and they are not very good. I've got a stock '95 LT-1 with open air box and cat-back exhaust. Does anybody have any idea if a power module by Hypertech or others are worth the money? Thanks.
I had one on my '94 LT1 prior to adding NOS--did nothing for me. Now, I just use it for turning on the fans earlier and for the tire size adjustment. :chevy
If you are buying it for the power tuning, then your wasting your money. Otherwise, buying a used one for $150 to do speedo changes for gears, shift-firmness if auto, lower fan temps, etc. is ok. However if you have a laptop, TunerCat can be had for $100, and a cable can be bought for as little as $35. Then you can tweek EVERYTHING.
Hey man, I am in the Internet networking business. I am about to swap put my stock 2:59 with 3:73 but don't want to buy that darn HPP III. Tell me more about this program Tunercat that I can use with my laptop. Thanks
http://www.tunercat.com is the address. I use the program to burn my EPROMS and it is the best 100 (You have to buy the program + a definition file which lets you hack the PCM or ECM for the certain computer your car uses) I have ever spent. Another choice is something like LT1Edit, LTedit or whatever. I am familiar with Tunercat and am happy with what it does.
The VSS is factory set for cars up to at least 91 so if you have a 91 or earlier, you actually need to change the speedometer gear in the tranny to calibrate the speedo. Tunercat will not let you make those changes for the earlier models.
On my car, I actually burn the chip so I had to buy a prom burner. Like mentioned earlier, a cable interface will be needed to hack into later years. Good luck, -Matt-
