Dont know if you figured it out yet...I always slip the sender unit in, turn sideways to clear the float bar and then drop down slowly..always works every time.
Theres a plastic half tank inside that you might be resting the pump or float on and its not falling in place yet.
If you take the sender back out,look inside the tank with a flashlight and youll see what I mean.
It almost sounds like you were installing the sender upside down by mistake.
Normally it should be easy to just drop in flush and seated.
Did you make any progress yet?
Thanks,Bill. Yes, i did get it . i saw the yellow baffle down in the tank.
I'm sure that's what was my problem. The sending unit next to the gas
fill seemed to be causing some prob. too. The clip kept hitting the
top of the tank,keeping me from lowering all the way down.
