Default Recommendation for a Complete Gasket Kit

I'm about to begin building a 388 for my 96 LT1. Short block is assembled, but I need a complete gasket set for the remainder of the engine.

I looked through the catalogs I have and the only one I saw was a PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) brand. Not knowing the quality, I'd prefer choosing a name brand kit, likeFel-Pro, etc.

Anyone know of a complete gasket set that has really good pieces, especially oil pan, head, intake and valve cover gaskets?

A complete set would be a lot easier on me than researching each individual gasket.

Thanks,

Jake

I used a Fel-Pro kit for my 95 rebuild. They have two kits (at least) one is a basic rebuild kit with stock rebuild head gaskets and the other has better head gaskets. Just call Summit or Jegs and tell them what you're looking for.

Thanks for that. I've been on Summit's site for the past couple of days and the only LT1 kit I saw ($192.xx) didn't specify the parts in the kit. Had photos, but no info on them.

I'll try to see what JEGS has to offer.

That should be the 'good' kit. Their other kit is well under $100 if I remember correctly.

I got an entire fel-pro kit from O'Reilly when I did my L98. It was about $80 I think...

That sure beat $192.xx I saw on Summit's site. Now I've got to see if there's an O'Reilly's anywhere near Merrillville, Indiana.

Thanks for that info.

BTW, yesterday I spent quite a while on JEGS' site but came up empty on a complete set. Guess I'll have to call JEGS and SUMMIT to see what gives.

Jake, im all on this post, but let me say this, I think you will find a big difference between L98 and LT1 gasket prices. Mainly due to mass production.
Also, check Auto Zone.

Yep, I think you've nailed it!

Since the LTx engines were made for so few years, parts for them much exceed the cost of L98 parts.

Then GM stuck the distributor at the front of the engine which complicated things even further. Right now I'm agonizing over whether I have the RIGHT Cloyes True Roller Timing Chain set.

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet; but ONLY after I've checked out all my alternatives.
