My car has developed a shudder at highway speeds in 4th with the tcc locked..if i apply moderate throttle (1/3-1/2) right before the tcc unlocks the car starts to shudder like it would if im going up a hill in od around 30mph. As soon as i've given enough throttle for it to unlock the shudder goes away. It only does it in od and only with the tcc locked, i have a manual switch to control it and with the converter unlocked its nice and smooth. I suspect its the begininng of something expensive
i read over your posts when my car started this, hoping i could find an answer..im thinking the tc clutch is slipping since it chatters like a stick car with a bad clutch, im just gonna drive it till it gets really bad, then leave the lockup off until i can afford a new one, i just dropped way to much money on my ps2 :)
I hear ya buddy on that dropping money in it.......i have done that with my vette.....so Iam once again saving the best I can....and in the spring......its a new torque converter....I don't have the OD button.....and hate the shudder feeling.....I have adjusted the tv cable to be tighter....and it helps but I know that it is just temporary and I don't wanna damage the tranny cause the torque converter is screwd up..........
Im going to take a stab at this and make a suggestion. I listen to the Pat Goss Show on local radio on saturdays. This comes up often about Fords. (TC shudder) Pat says there is a Factory bulletion out that says to take vehicle and have it flushed. Not just changed, but flushed. A lot of people are going to tell you not to flush it, that it will ruin your transmission. So its a decision you have to make on your own. I dont see how a flush can ruin a transmission. I have a friend who rebuilds transmissions and he says to take it home after a flush and change the filter. But other then that it should be ok.
Torque converter "shudder" is not unusual. The only cure I am aware of is to replace the torque converter. I had this problem in a Citation years ago -- nothing fixed it but replacing the torque converter.
The 700 on my old Suburban was shuddering under moderate acceleration (140,000 miles). Changed the fluid and filter twice (long story). No more shudder for last 5,000 miles.
I'm sure it's time is about up, but it bought me some extra time.
I went through the same thing about a year ago. The only solution the shop was able to find was to replace it. Mine was in a '93. Lately, I've noticed a little of it coming back. The replacement was a factory new converter. I'm thinking of trying something else when this one gets bad enough. The shop is a specialty 'vette shop here in Houston. They deal with nothing but Corvettes, so I assume they know what they're doing. I haven't come across any quick fixes.
