My 96 CE has a broken latch on the center console, and it sort of pops up when you make a turn or accelerate. I noticed it mostly when on a road course. It is small but annoying. I can't seem to find a replacement latch to install, and I don't want to buy a whole door. Any suggestions? Thanks, Eric.
Almost all the major Corvette supply catologs like Mid America Motorworks, Corvette Central, Ecklers, etc have the replacement latches and springs which fit into the consule top housing when you remove the screws to separate the padded top from the interior shell. It's an easy and relatively inexpensive fix.
My understanding is that GM itself doesn't sell the individual parts.
I hate to admit it, but mine is so messed up I just locked it and use it rarely. The latch in the lid is busted, the catch in the console is busted, I even had to repair the lock cylinder to get it to work. Good grief!
Locking yours would be a good way to keep it from bothering you until you can fix it. That's if you haven't locked it already. Someday I will replace the whole lid and the rest of the broken junk on mine. It is just not in the budget right now. (the lids are expensive!)
