Default Need advise re: SLP Cold air induction system

Just installed a new aluminum radiator and did an SLP Cold air induction kit w/ KN filter and now notice a considerable increase in radiator temperature. Normal has been 175 to 185 w/o a/c and It's gone up about 10 degree's w/o air on (185-190+) and 205 to 220 w/ air on. Is this normal? is the heat excessive? Would it help to use the louvered filter cover instead of the sealed one that came with the kit. Or, should I can the whole thing and go back to oem and keep the KN filter?
Thanx for the advise!!!

My "guess" is your temp problem has nothing to do w/ the addition of the SLP unit & everything to do w/ the radiator mod...so I'd start there.

Your car ran 175° and you put a new radiator in? 220° is still below stock fan turn on temp. It's cooler then stock. What temp. do you want, 150°?

Steve: Year and profile are important, esp since C4's cover a broad venu of yrs and styles... the more info the better, the guys here are not mystics or mind readers.

Sounds like an 85-89 SLP cold air intake.

The radiator shrowd is cut to permit the forward facing scoop to draw air in front of the radiator. There is an additional panel that helps direct the airflow to the radiator.

I have one of these intakes and I have never noticed an increase in coolant temps as a result of the cold air intake, but I do run my fans at lower than stock settings and use a 160 stat.

It is possible that you have less air flowing through the radiator now due to the design on the intake lid.

Default SLP cold air induction problem

Sorry! Here's some more info on the car. It's an 89 w/ auto trans, Corsa exhaust, with 130,000 miles, and no other mod's. (yet ) I had a small leak in the old radiator, which is the reason for the change out. I just drove it home from work (had to go slow most of the time, in pretty heavy traffic)and also noticed that I am now getting the "service engine soon" lite coming on. When I turn off the engine and wait about 10 seconds and re-start, it doesn't come on again. Any Ideas? Everything seems to be running all right, and I have normal response no indications that something is wrong in the engine. The coolant level hasn't gone down, so I guess I have no other leak problems. The temp in traffic went as high as 220, but dropped back when I got moving again, but still runs more hot than usual. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid, but I don't like sudden changes that I can't seem to explain.

Do the L98 cars need to "burp" the cooling system like the LT1 cars?

If so, that may be part of the problem.

I installed a SLP cold air in my 88. It didn't change the coolant temps.

Yes, though I drill a hole in the 'stat to make it easy. Or buy a balanced type 'stat, some come with a slot and do not need to have a hole drilled.

stevie1dr please pull the codes, that may lead to a clue to fix it. It's very easy to do. You jumper the top two right holes in the connection port by your right knee when you sit in the car, then count the SES flashes. I keep a paper clip in the car for this.
