Calling PETE K
I'm having problems getting my home repaired 700r4 ,91 c4 to shift 3-4. I read one of your post about the possibility of the T V cable being stretched . I replaced it with a new factory cable ,no improvement.
on rebld I installed a 92 governor I had ( I lost the small spring to the 91 & could not find it , so I substitutes the 92 ) .They appeared to be identical . In one of your later postings a member stated having similar prob. & you offered the opinion about the stuck ball in the seperator plate . My seperator plate showed some deformation ,I believe caused by a shifter kit . I hammered the deformation back down .
Reviewing what has been done what course of action would you advise .
Thanks a lot Pete . Warren.
If the seperator plate was deformed enough to require hammering(although slight) and filing of the burrs, I would suggest replacing it and using that as a starting point. Unless they are like new, I always change them to avoid issues that are tough to track down. Also, while the pan is down, verify the letter v on the lower valve body gasket and the letter c on the upper gasket. Very easy to accidently mis install the seperator plate gaskets. Also, when you hamered on the governor cap, did you hammer the edges? The reason I ask is because tapping the center will dent it and eliminate the governors end play.
If the job went flawlessly from start to finish I would have been denied the oppertunity to learn all of these other possibilities that you have gleaned over the years . Thanks again .
Warren
