Default What bonding material to use ????

I am just about ready to replace the entire rear clip. It looks to be just bonded to the rest of the body. I see door jams and ontop of the trunk bucket to the quarters. what is used to repond the new clip back on and where is it available.

Thanks

your car is made of SMC (sheet moulded composite). and you must use an epoxy made for SMC....it is available at most auto paint stores...get something with at least 1 hour drying time if you've never done this before...be sure and rough up both bonding surfaces with at least 80 grit, 36 is better....dry fit until you're happy and make supports to hold it where you need it with boxes, blocks, etc....drywall screws can help hold it until dry....best to pre-drill but may not be necessary...it's not too hard, just take your time and make refecence marks where necessary and put adhesive on both sides if possible...however, if the glue mfg. says something different, do it their way!!!

Go to a auto paint store and ask about Fuzor (or Fusor) products, for this. Its a 2 part product. They make many and I dont recall the specific one, but the salesman can help with that. You need a special gun that squeezes 2 tubes into a mixing nozzle. Click on my Corvette pics, to get an idea of what I fixed. My Corvette pics is missing. ???????

LORD makes Fusor, you probably will want the 100EZ(SMC stuctural adhesive). Make sure you get extra tips when you use the stuff. its applied similar to caulk, yet uses a different gun which you will probably have to buy. awsome product and works great.

The rear clip is NOT bonded to the body, it bolts on. I just finished removing mine and holy HELL there were a lot of bolts. This is really quite a job and it can get confusing because you can't just look at it and tell what's going on, everything is hidden. Here's what you do to remove it, on a '96 at least:

-remove the license plate and the headlight covers.
-reach through the license plate hole and unscrew the headlight frames from the back (10mm bolts) and remove them
-remove all the lights by twisting them half a turn and then pulling from the back.
-reaching through the license plate and headlight holes, remove a ton of bolts/nuts (about 20) along the upper seam. They start out 7mm and transition to 10mm along the sides, and the studs stay in place. You have to reach in a really awkward way to get to some because the antenna bracket is in the way. Hope you have some good socket extensions, if not go invest in some.
-remove the lower bolts just inside the license plate hole, and the bolts outside near the muffler tips.
-remove both rear wheel wells (remove the allen bolts and they slide out)
-unscrew two more bolts on each side, on the seam just behind the rear wheel wells. They are awkward and require one of those wobbly-type extensions and I think an 8mm socket. Remove the tubular metal brace that uses one of these bolts.
-pull down hard on the section near the wheel well to disengage it from the studs that are pointing downwards, and then pull backwards on the whole rear clip and it should come off, unless you forgot some bolts (you probably did - so keep looking and feeling around).
-while it's hanging loose, unplug any remaining connectors from the clip.

I think that's everything. If not PM me.

Yea, I did. I could not resist a challenge. A 4wd Silverado hit the right rear wheel. He was doing about 50 mph.

Garett, I think you're confusing the rear bumper with the clip!
