Default how to remove torx bolt from AC compressor?

I have an 86 coupe that was making a screeching noise that I traced to a bolt under the AC compressor that has either backed out or broken off and is hitting the AC clutch pulley. I know that it has a torx head and is ground flat on one side, but I cannot get it past the AC clutch. I have tried to take out the other mounting bolts but one is blocked by the AC hoses on the back side and the other is blocked by the valve cover. I seems that every route I take is stimeyed by something. I am so frustrated that i AM ABOUT TO TAKE A BIG HAMMER TO IT!!! Can someone please tell me how to get that #@*^%$%# bolt out with out dismantling the whole Fing car. Please!!!

Just pop the pulley and clutch assembly off, that's all that's needed.

there should be a half moon cut out of the clutch to reach that bolt.

Yep, there's a notch in the A/C that'll allow a torx head bit to fit into the bolt.

Yeah, but I think the threads on it are too long so it backs out and hits the clutch, you may have to loosen the other bracket bolts and pull it forward a bit to unthread that bolt all the way, then slide it out using the notch.

You don't have to remove that bolt by the valve cover. Loosen the a/c bracket and compressor as one piece.

On my 86, all I do is remove the serpentine belt, turn the A/C pulley as I felt underneath it with my hand (at about 6 o'clock) until I felt the notch.

With the notch positioned at 6 o'clock the long bolt could be loosened and it slide right out.

Mine has an after market compressor that does not have the notch. It must not be for a vette. It was on ther when I bought it. i have ordered an AC clutch puller and I will pull the clutch. barring that , I will pull the entire bracket off. I probably need to do that to get the broken end of the bolt out anyway. What a PITA! Thanks guys!

Do you need bolts for replacement? I bet I have them from the 86 I parted out, let me know.

my pulley didnt have a notch either, so i ground one into it.
i cut another one into it 180 deg. from the first, to balance it out.

I wanted to update those kind folks who replied. I took Corvette Kid's advice and removed the AC compressor clutch. I rented most of the tools from Autozone , but had to buy the hub puller from NAPA. Anyway, the good news is that the bolt was not broken but merely backed out. The threads were buggered up and that is why I could not screw it back in. After I removed the bolt, I chased the threads with a die, applied blue locktite and screwed it back it TIGHT!!!!!. What a royal PITA over one bolt!!! It must be a labour of love 'cause there's no other explaination. Thanks again folks.
