Default Well, I did it

I pulled the Optispark off my 93 LT1 today, that was fun. I am 90% sure it was dead. About a week ago I was passing a car on a 2-lane road and I hit the rev limiter in 3rd gear. Then the car started acting funny, ie: hard starting, shutting off for no reason at idle, ect.

Where is the best place to purchase a new optispark, price wise. I have the Mid-America catalog, and they are about $250 for the full replacement, and $130 for just the cap. Anyone know where you can get one a bit cheaper?

And second, is it necessary to change the whole unit, or is changing the cap sufficient?

Thanks for the advice,

Jack

I would pull your codes. It may be something as simple as a coil.
I personally like the Dynaspark, but they are having issues right now. The MSD opti would be my second choice. I would not order an opti from MAD or Ecklers. Check out Summit or Jegs.

I don't know if just changing the cap will fix any of the issues without further investigation. If it is the opti, consider a water pump replacement too.

Finally, do a search using the search feature. There are hundreds of opti threads . Lots of good "how to" write ups as well

You're probably not going to find an early opti cheaper than $250, and that seems too cheap. Are you sure it's an early version?

When I bought my last opti Dallas at Van Devere Olds had the best price.

Thanks for the insight, was hoping for a more real reply. Something in the ballpark of... I just recently replaced my optispark, and I bought it from _______ for about $_______.
