At the (biggest) risk of being flamed off of the forum, in order of preference, what oil do ya'll use in your babies?
I was a religious Castrol Syntec user in all of my previous cars... my 92 LT1 says she is ready for new lube and I want to do her right. I'll be standing over here in my asbestos suit now.....
The performance of most fully approved synthetics is very similar. Thin oils like 5W-30 and 10W-30 offer more rear wheel horsepower, less cold start wear and better fuel economy. Approximately 80% of engine wear occurs during cold start, below 150 degrees oil temp. Wear rate below 150 degrees F is approximately exponential and increases with thick oil. Yes, this accelerated startup wear occurs every morning in the summer in places like Waco and Phoenix. Thick oils like 15W-50 augment oil pressure as needed in severely worn motors or certain severe duty air cooled or turbocharged applications. It has absolutely no redeeming value in a stock C4, although it "will work". Even NASCAR, CART and F1 use thin viscosity these days. The thicker is better notion is strictly "old school".

The only answers you'll likely get here are from Mobil1 users. Everyone else is afraid THEY will get flamed if they say what they use.
My opinion: if you change it often, it doesn't matter much. Although if I had a newer design engine (LT1, LT4) I might be more inclined to use synthetic. I have heard that your engine may run a few degrees cooler with synth but I haven't seen it for myself. If you don't mind spending 4x the price for oil, by all means use it. As for which synth to use, Mobil1 would be my choice as well.
