Default C4 Accelerator pedal hinge

I thought I saw something on this before, but my search was fruitless. I have an 85 C4 that the plastic accelerator pedal pivot broke. Is there a metal replacement bracket out there for this?

Why do our pedals have a pivot anyway? Makes it near impossible to heel-toe. I plan on locking my pivot in place, personally.

RD Racing was selling them, and I think a forum member 'vettmike' was making them.

I guess I need to clarify, I do know what you mean about the pedal pivot you can do without when you're doing the heel-toe manuver.
I'm talking about the the main pivot for the metal arm. The whole pedal assembly is hanging by the cable. I took the two nuts off and the rest of the plastic hinge came off the bulkhead.

Thanks Vader. I saw a reference in another thread to R-D Racing having them but I couldn't find one on their website.

RDR stopped carrying it a year or so ago.

A simple search turns up plenty of threads showing how to get one..

Yes, I saw that thread and I also see vettmike is not well. I'm still looking for one.

Vettemike is no more.

I would not recommend his part though. For me it made the pedal much worse than stock since it used a clevis pin with poor tolerances. Having it a seperate piece than the pedal arm also introduces more slop, not to mention having a round peg in a square hole.

Also, the pivot on his was about 1/2" higher than my stock bracket. This caused the top of the pedal arm to bind up above somewhere at part throttle creating a huge safety hazard.

I have no idea why Mike designed it this way, but he still said my case was isolated and others never had any of those problems. (Seems this is always the answers the vendors give.) He gave me my money back.

Valiant effort, but poor execution.

I regret not posting my feedback with this a long time ago. I hate to think I could have saved someone else the trouble, especially considering you have to tear up your gas pedal to install this part. What was stopping me is that there seems to be some unwritten rule here that you can't say negative things about certain people's products.

My post is specific only to my 85. I can't speak for other years.

Default Vette Mike passed away

MIke lost his battle with Cancer. I was fortunate to have purchase one of the parts about 12 months ago from Mike. He was a great guy.

As I understood it, Mike was the person supplying the part to R&D so unless you can find one second hand your only option may be OEM part.

I have not tried mine yet. I wonder if it will work better for a later model C4 say from 94-96? Anyone know?

The breaking gas pedal is not a joke. I was autocrossing my 90 ASP Vette 10 years ago when the gas pedal bracket broke and fell under the brake pedal. I was doing 60mph aimed at the grid and had no brakes. I spun the car to stop. Needless to say I installed an aluminum pedal support made by Dave Morin at Motion Motorsports in Morgan Hill, CA. I have no idea if dave is still making them.
