Hey guys,
There is a spot on my digital display which is always visible. Its a part by the 80 km/h mark, on the green. I know that this is a symptom of dash problems. But what is causing it? Can i fix it without sending it for a $400 repair? Thanks!!
Yup, sounds exactly like whats going on with me, theres no way to fix that besides replacing that LCD panel. It is from sunfading, so you are either going to have to find a new cluster or a supplier of LCD panels. The great part about those guys that rebuild them is that they want $350 just to take it apart and solder a couple of connections. The better Part is that your core is no good if you have sunfaded LCD panels, which means you get to pay more. I am still looking for a source for the panels so if you find anybody, PLEASE let me know. I'll do the same.
I've got "the fade" too. Most of my speedo is unreadable. The only place I've found is corvettedashclusterservice.com.
From their website:
"Our "Direct Repair charge is $ 195.00. This is with an approved core.
Broken LCD's are an extra charge. Also LCD displays, the Speedo LCD,
the DIC LCD, and the Tach LCD are useless if they are sun-faded through
the front glass. Most Clusters sent in for repair or sent in to be approved as
a core are acceptable and are repaired at the basic charge of $195.00
The displays ( 3 LCD's ) are valued at $150.00 each. "
So it looks like mine would cost $345 to repair. Somehow I have this feeling that they will deem other parts of my core "unrepairable" and hit me for another $150 after the fact. I'm going to look around locally. If I find anything else, I'll chime back in.
Thanks for the help. I agree that this is a con to the digi dash. So it is a couple of LCD segments that are going out? It seems like its a circle and not just a few distinct segments. BTW, anyone have that web site for fixing your digi dash?
What are we going to do??? There must be somebody that has these panels. Please...someone sell me the two panels!!! I wanna see my RPM's and my coolant temp!

corvettedashclusterservice.com is a service run by Gene Tabor. Have never heard anyone complain about excess bills from him. I had a thermal intermittant in my cluster (if car interior was hot, all the various segments on the cluster would flash on and off). Sent my cluster to Gene with $195. Long story short, he replaced the most likely parts, it worked fine for him during burn-in. I get it back, it would quickly fail again. It made 3 trips out there, spent a total of 3 months in his shop (I asked him to burn it in as long as possible the 3rd time while I was doing an interior restoration). He finally replaced one of the two circuit boards. He never charged me more than the original $195. I've got it installed, and it's been working fine, but I won't know for sure until next summer again.
Gid, Mine was completely dark. Nothing worked. I took it apart and did all the things they tell yout to do on the "batee" page but nothing would work. Some parts were "fried". United quoted me a price of no more than $250 exchange, and it cost less than their quote.
