On my husbands' '93 we're having a brake problem. When we first take the car out we have to press very hard to get the car to stop. It seems like I'm pushing as hard as I can but it still creeps forward before it stops. It will be like this for about 20 miles or so and then the brake feels and responds normally.
Someone told my husband it could be the booster??
Thanks for any suggestions Linda
I have had the same problem with my 94 even after new GM pads installed at dealer. The tech checked everything including the booster and said " thats the way it is". You just have to be aware and hope you don't have to make any "panic" stops. I don't like it one bit. Someday its going to catch up and and accident will happen. Mine is a daily driver in LA and stay alert. I will be due for new pads soon and will get advice on different types of pads. Any advice from forum members with same problem?? What was the remedy?

What type of brake pads are you using? Some of the more severe pads will do that -- even the PFC Z-rated pads. They need a few miles to heat up before they work very well. However, I never had that happen with the stock pads.
It's possible it's the booster, but it should be happening all of the time if that were the case. It's easy enough to get the booster leak-tested, though.
My performance friction pads aren't very bad about that. They make a little bit of a creak noise for the first 2-3 stops and stopping power seems a little reduced... that's about it. I can tell a big difference in the stopping power after they get hot though.
If the brake booster were bad it could display these symptons. I had a Monte Carlo that I chased almost the same problem around with. I finally replaced the booster and not a problem one after that.
Here is another vote for the booster. Mine was good enough to get around town with no problems but when you had to stop quick you knew there was a problem. When the brake pedal was depressed sometimes you could slightly hear vacuum.
My 95 did the same thing everymoring or after the car cooled down. Do you guys drive automatics?? Mine was. I noticed that when the car seems like it is braking hard put it in neutral and I bet it stops on a dime.. :) I found out that when the car first starts up it will idel higher causing the torque converter to be partially engaged. It's like trying to brake while your foot is on the gas :) :) Unfortunately there is nothing you can do except put the car in neutral during the first few brakes. :) I guess the car has too much power for the braking system :D :D Hope this helps :yesnod: :yesnod:
