Right now I have 2 1/4 inch exhaust pipes. Would it make a big difference going to 2 1/2 inch? The engine was just rebuilt with a bunch of performance parts like cam, intake, runners, ported plenum, 24lb injectors, headers etc. Would it be worth the money to change the exhaust?
When i had single exhaust with LT headers, and than i replaced it with Corvettecentralexhaust.com true dual exhaust for L98, its an 2 1/4 piping with H-pipe in middle, i picked up .2 sec and 4 mph in a 1/4 mile.
Since ur engine is not highly modded so doing 2 1/4 CCe.com will be better, but its aluminized steel and not mandrel bent tubing. but its pretty strong, same exhaust pete k has for yrs and yrs.
But if ur modding ur car in future, its better to go 2 1/2-2 3/4 piping dual exhaust or used LT1 exhaust and just purchase LT1 hangers from GM dealer or order it from CCE.com. Hope this helps.
I have similar mods to my 85 and I also went with the cce.com duals with Flowmaster 50 series mufflers and gained .3 tenths in the qtr! The quality is there and it was quite easy to install.
Is your system mandrel bent? Going to a 2.5" mandrel system should net some gain. On my old turbo car there was a nice difference from a 2.5" non-mandrel to 3" mandrel bent system. The boost really ran up quick from less back pressure. Not the best comparison but I remember how good it was. Any idea the HP? If you go to big you can lose some velocity, so matching the pipe size to the HP can help.
That Corvette Central system is 2.25" from what I remember, he already has that.
