Default Please tell the truth.....

Hey all,
I have been planning some mods for my engine and they include:
1. Super Ram
2. After Market base
3. AFR 190 heads

You can see the rest of the information in the signature. My quesion is how much of an inprovement am I going to realize with respect to the money I am going to spend. My goal is to be in the 12's consistantly. Is this possible with this setup? Thanks for all the advise. Also I will be tuning the car with my custom chips. Has made a big difference already. Thanks guys for the advise.

what cam are you planning??? With a 219 LPE cam and a good converter & tires you will easily be in the 12s and with some attention to detail could run 11s. Unless you live in Colorodo...didn't notice your signature.

You might consider some 1.6:1 RRs and new valve springs.
Don't foreget to lose that "frisbee".
Port your stock exhaust manifolds for some gain.
If near Trenton, NJ, have Denny at Mufflex install a custom 2 1/2" front Y and maybe a mandrel-bent rear Y.

With these and your planned mods you sould be solid.

Check out my mods & best times. With sticky tires and a 2,400rpm TC I should be at the door now. Just heads should do the job from here.

Also you've got mail on results of mods on a '90 Vette 6-speed.

First question, what is your current ET and MPH ?

AFR heads and superram should put you deep into the 12's with the right cam.

Check out Ralph's setup, his stock bottom end setup is running 11's.

If you've never had the heads off before, I'd wait until you see the condition of your deck. You may need to put some money into the block before you upgrade and if it needs some work that could influence your upgrade decisions.

Sorry guys not to include the cam I was planning on a the 219 lingenfelter. I hear that works well with the setup. My current runs at NJ this summer before anything was done to the car as far as MAT sensor, Frisbee removal, chip burning that took alot of knock retard out, running at a temp of 220*, and lastly I found that my timing was off by ~4-5*! I was running a solid 14.3 sec. The car now after new chip, right timing, lower temps, and frisbee removal, and removed air pump feels a million times stronger. I also adjusted the TV cable and the car will chirp the tires even at 1/2 throttle between 1 & 2 gear. I am very happy with the mods thus far, but really am wondering if all the money is worth it. I already have the Superram as indicated, but am getting just wondering it the ends is worth the means. I really want to do it, just need the encouragement. I love this stuff! Do you think I will need headers and a torque converter. I know these will help but am looking to save some cash. I will probably do it, just wondering. Thanks and sorry for the length of this post.

Depending on the stock converter you have, a new HP converter could be the best bang for the buck, worth up to 1/2 sec in the qtr. The stock 85 converter on my car was pretty loose, so the upgrade was worth maybe a tenth, but i've heard of a lot on people getting several tenths from a converter upgrade.

Headers, i don't know? Did mine with the rest of the mods.

Well, supposedly that setup with stock heads/cams is good for 13.2. Toss in the 219 cam and you'll be in the 12s like Ralph said. If you do the cam, you WILL need new springs as the stock ones are not strong enough for the cam.

Scorp,
I will be getting the AFR 190 heads fully assembled. Those springs should be good enough to run a 219 cam right? I would think so but scorp has me thinking now. I will probably try the setup without the headers and torque converter at first but then upgrade to them. Do you think this will keep me from the 12's? Thanks guys.

The AFR springs can handle the 219, just tell AFR that is the cam you are using. I think they set them up with 120lbs seat pressure which is a little more than LPE recommends, but it is fine.

the car should still run in the 12s without the converter or headers, however the headers are a little easier to do while the heads are off, but no biggy.
