melling m-55 oil pump
Interesting article in hot rod about the changes to the melling oil pump.
Melling was trying to be the supplier for g.m. . The pump was re-designed per g.m. which was supposed to improve performance and durability,but these pumps are not for high perf. just direct replacement for stock pumps.The casting was changed to a thinner wall causing lots of problems for hot rodders,the problem was the part number for this new pump retained the old part number so people were ordering this pump and not getting the better casting(thicker).this pump will split open especially if you have solid motor mounts. Melling has and updated pump with the thickness of the older pump with improvements called their select model.Anyone looking to buy one of their pumps should get the select model. hope I didn't butcher this too bad.

I would stick with basic old GM pumps... they work very well.
