Default SLP Cold Air Induction Kit

What's the consensus on this add-on? Is it worth the investment, or is it just another way to blow some hard earned cash? I'm contemplating buying one, but figured I should check here first.

Seen this thread before. Vader86 is going to come and say its a piece of **** and offers zero gains. Central Coaster is going to say vader86 has no proof of his claims. I say if you want it, get it. No cold air intake is going to give noticable gains on the L-98. You can re-route the coolant away from the throttle body and people say that helps but I think its B.S. So pretty much your best bet would to be a Cut-Lid and K&N filter which adds roughly 10 horsepower. Also a big mouth air dam seems to make the car run cooler.

Also you posted this thread twice. I put both answers in each thread. I think it adds a little but best bang for the buck just go with the K&N and cut lid.

I picked up about 2 highway mpg with it in cool weather. So obviously it's making more power since I need less throttle for freeway cruising.

You can't do dyno comparisons on these either, since it only has a positive effect at speed.

I don't have a 1/4mi track anywhere nearby either, so I don't plan on doing any comparisons. It will show less gains on an 1/8th mile track.

Damn I am good. I know how all the smart members act. Vader will be posting in here soon with the its a cold air crap box. I am all on this debate. Yep, you can cut our your license plate. Mid america has a "special" kit for the 90s model and a non functioning cover for our years. For what they want for it. Ill take a jigsaw and cut it out myself like the other gentleman did on here. Doesn't look to bad for his first try. If he sands it down and rebuilds it up with some paint will look very nice.

Don't confuse this mod with the SLP "Claw" intake for later C4s, that is certifiably useless.

I'm running the SLP ram air and didn't see any gain in trap speed so conclude no gain.

I believe Vic'89 added the TPIS Air Froce 1 and saw some gain in trap speed.

Dont drag so trap speed=Nothing to me. I take it by the way it is from low end. Like from a stoplight to smoke someone. Intake sounds good that way.

I have a front scoop more for it's cooling then power. I'll tape it off and test it at Union Grove in a few weeks.

It's way cheaper than all the other kits, and comes with a K&N that costs $60 on its own.

Shoving more air into the radiator and shoving more air into the intake are completely different.

The vortex rammer is 300. How much is this SLP and where do you get it from ie(ecklers, midamerica) also how hard is it to install? Will it delete that stupid intake box in the front of the engine bay?

The front scoop one mine doesn't goto the radiator at all. Most of the air should be going into the filter, there is not a tube though. Some air would be going around the engine, helping with cooling. (I hope) The car does do well with heat on the track.

And C4driver99/corvette172002/Troll #1 is going to come in and regurgitate something he read to try and stir up sh**. How many screennames are you running right now? Feel like getting banned again?

The Vortex is the one that is a piece of sh**, this one is fine in quality but it doesnt give the HP it is advertised to do. The 3-cone "Claw" for the later cars does nothing either. Not that it would show up anywhere but the strip anyway.

If you actually read the thread you are referring to, you'd see that I do own one of the SLPs and didnt get anything with it at the strip. It makes a cool sucking sound at the front of the car, and though it should work in principle it didnt show any measurable improvement on a couple nights at the Atlanta Dragway (1/4mi).

Sounds like the consensus is it is more or less a way to get rid of extra cash. I have no shortage of those, so I think I'll pass.

Vader86, thanks very much for the excellent web page link. It's loaded with useful and very helpful information. You are the man!!
