Looking to upgrade my mufflers, I have some LT-1 Mufflers on my '86, i'd like to reuse the stock tips, i've been thinking about Magnaflows. I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but are there any better options than magnaflow?
My cam is a LT-4 HOT cam so i'm looking for something to dampen the exhaust pulses for a smoother exhaust note, that's probably the most important thing
Man its catch 22 with these exhaust systems...ddi you know, say a stock L98 exhaust only had one working muffler outlet?
There are 2 but the other was to cancel out noise.
I also believe LD85 here on the forum found a way to get it quiet by closing up one outlet on each side.
LD if youre there, let us know what it was.
Anyways with most 2 outlet working mufflers, youre going to get more noise...and the problem with others using different systems, everyone has a different opinion as to whats too loud and whats not.Very hard to compare.
If both of your outlets right now flow exhaust,I would see if you can close up one side on each muffler and see if that helps.
My '91 had eliminators. I couldn't stand the noise. I did some checking around and went with Midas stock type mufflers. Way quieter and nearly no resonance. It still sounds like a V8 now instead of a hopped up *** car. I did lose a little power. I can live with that.
2 weeks ago, I changed over from Flowmasters to a chambered exhaust system from Corvette Central. Much better. The Flowmasters were not really that loud, either at idle or going through the gears, but the biggest drawback with them, was the resonance ... especially at cruising....70-75 MPH in 6th gear...I called them the "Dronemasters" The chambered exhaust has a much more aggressive sound, very similar to the side exhaust on the Sting Rays. They let you know there is a V-8 under the hood, when taking it to higher RPM's, but, at the same time, they are just a mellow purr at cruising...and NO resonance, plus a nice burble when backing off the throttle.....
