Ok I was repairing the OD relay plug and fuel pump relay plug, then I hooked up the battery and POOF there goes the fusible link from the battery. Didn't have time to see what a screwed up, before leaving.
I think the FSM calls it the "H" link, it comes right of the battery and has GM Weatherpack plug on the end. Does anyone know if this dealer item or should I just get some fusible wire and see if I can mate the GM connector on it?
First you should find out what wire you shorted to ground that caused the fusible link to blow before you replace the fusible link!!! Also you can get a lot more help if you would bother to state what year vette you are asking help for instead of making everyone go looking for it.
Yes, obviously, I'll be finding the root cause of the short If I wasn't trying to "beat the clock" I probably wouldn't have toasted the link to begin with.
It's an '86 if that makes a difference; guess I ASSumed that wire harness didn't change that much over the years.
To answer your question- Yes you can buy the link at your local rape dealer- but you are going to need lots of info for them like-where did it come from, whats it look like, year and model, pictures help and we will have to order it for you. You could make your own- provided you have or can get the weatherpack connectors and you know for sure what gauge the fuse link wire is. Otherwise you will end up with a fire. I believe some of the local parts supplies have generic links you can make up as needed. Duoble check and triple check your wiring repairs- I know - you already knew that. Good luck.
