I'm in the market for new rotors and breaks on my 92. My buddy just upgraded his GS to racing cross drilled/sloted on all 4 corners. My question is this, will his old GS break setup (excluding calipers) work on my 92? Will I still be able to race NCCC (both AutoX and high speed) stock in class 1GS with this setup since I believe the GS are in my class anyways (92-96)? Almost forgot - he has the Callaway option on his GS (#0001) - do they touch the breaks during this upgrade? My rims are currently ZR1 style 17".
I believe they have about 16k miles on them and I'm not exactly sure what price he is asking yet but I should find out tonight. Should I keep my existing calipers (needs repainted) or replace? If so, how much to they run. Or, should I stop being cheap and just buy a complete break setup someplace online?

Re: GS Break setup on a 92 - will it work (Ron G 1992)
If I understand correctly, you have the 12" base 92 brakes and you want to use his GS rotors with your calipers? If so, yes you can get away with that in stock class as the J55 option for 92 was ZR1 13" brakes and was available for all cars. This included 13" rotors that are the same as the GS rotors (except GS rotors are painted on the center portion) and heavy duty calipers. The calipers look exactly the same as your stock calipers, the only problem will be you'll need the 13" brake mounting brackets, the stock brackets will not allow the calipers to fit on the 13" rotors. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure that you CAN NOT use the same calipers. Chevrolet sells different ones for the J55. All you will need are calipers, caliper brackets, and new bolts (or re-locktite your old ones)
Re: GS Break setup on a 92 - will it work (Ron G 1992)
Heres the score... I just upgraded to the GS kit.
The J55 is a bigger version of the standard brakes.
They use the same exact same 2 piston caliper for both systems.
Now, the GS calipers are not the same. They do use the same pads, tho. And mount to the same brackets.
The GS calipers are simular, but thats the extent of it. They are much stronger, hence, less prone to flex. Also a 2 piston unit. And mount to the same brackets.
I have put the GS upgrade on mine this past weekend. Used EBC greenstuff pads. Damn thing stops on a dime, and makes change!!!
Don't get drilled rotors!!!! They will crack along the holes, unless properly thermally treated or cast in holes!!!

The J55 and stock calipers, although they have different part numbers, look exactly the same and both WILL fit on the 13" rotors/brackets. I tested this when I went to my J55 setup.
Re: GS Break setup on a 92 - will it work (EvanLT1)
I just contacted a sales persone at Baer and they offered me the following brake package for the front only. PBR (same setup as the Grand Sports), 13" rotors, Baer calipers, lines, pads, everything that is need for $595.00 plus S&H. He noted that I should stick with factory rotors and keep my original calipers on the rear because that is what he would sell me if I bought another pair. I can pickup GM rotors for I think around $75.00 each. Is there anythign that I could be missing or can I get a better price somewhere else?
Also - does anyone know how I can get in touch with carfan18?
