Default LT1 Performance upgrades advice

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and was hoping for some advice.

I have a 1994 LT1 auto with 3.07's in the rear, I want to tweek it up for some 1/4 mile action, I don't want to start ripping the engine apart as I've still got to watch fuel consumption (petrol in England is now nearly $9 a gallon and my nearest track is a 2 hour drive!!).

I've already ordered the following which is currently on its way to me:

SLP tri-cone cold air-intake
SLP exhaust system
BBK 52mm throttle body
Grannetti Mass Air Flow
Morosso Pro-Coil + 8mm leads

and I would really appeciate people's opinions on what would be the best next upgrades based on the above.

My take is the stuff you ordered won't do much. See if you can send the Granitelli MAF and the TB back. I would put that money toward a HotCam, full roller rockers, and LT4 springs. After that drag tires will help.

personally should have went without the throttle body and MAF.. and went with a mail order tune or try to squeeze some headers out of it.. depending if you bought those 2 new or not.. thats just me

This and the aforementioned converter and headers will help a lot.
BTW, I use the Hotcam in a 388 stroker with fully ported heads, oversized valves, 1.6 RRs, 11:1 CR, etc., etc. and still get 26 MPG highway. I still retain 3.07 gears and use a 3000 Vigilante converter. I only use a 52mm TB with this combo. You really don't need that. The tri-cone air intake is of negligible (if any) benefit too, especially for the price.
If you don't want to go inside the engine yet, start with the headers, a converter and drag radials and you should easily be in the 12s with a little practice.

Drop the SLP 'cold air intake'. It's not a true cold air system, and you'll get about the same results with a K&N filter with a cut lid

A good quality 9.5 inch converter and a set of 3.73 rear gears would be the first two mods. These along with the supporting mods to go along with them should get you into the 12's with drag radials. You will want a trans cooler, you will want a deep trans pan, Derale makes a nice steel unit for less than $100.00 You will want to freshen the rear while doing the gear change and change the U- joints while you're at it. Do not buy cheap U joints. I ran a Yank converter in mine with a 3.73 in a dana 44 and went 12.60's on slicks.

Bingo..Wayne Lowry has it right...no disrespect but send all of the stuff you ordered back...none of it will do squat...gears and a converter are your best bang for the buck...

If you want to go faster then you can do long tubes and a cam...faster still, get better flowing heads and a custom tune...after that....lol

I like the way you think
The LT1 cars really like converter upgrades. Bang for the buck that is very hard to beat

I'm sorry, not to get off subject here....did I see $9/gallon in England? As much as I love hot rodding my Vette, that might take the wind out of my sails.....

Yep, it's very depressing and makes running a vette in England a REAL financial commitment!!

Send back both the items ive put in RED. If you cant send them back, sell them. You dont need the 52mm throttle body, you wont gain a thing from having it, and the stock GM MAF sensor is better than the other one anyway. Use that money and get a torque converter from Pete K.

The bottom line is this, going fast means spending more money (in the right places, not on junk), and you either want to go fast or you dont. If you want to go fast, money is no object. If it is, you dont want to go that fast
